The GLOBE Academy is a free, Public Charter School in DeKalb County, Georgia. It opened its doors for the 2013-14 school year and has been gaining momentum ever since.

Admissions

  • By random lottery for students in the DeKalb County School District for kindergarten, 1st and 6th grades.
  • Availability-based for 2nd through 5th, & 7th through 8th grades for students who meet proficiency standards. For grade levels with a wait list, admission is by lottery.

The lottery drawing for the 2023-24 school year was conducted on February 28, 2023 at 11:00am.

Student Enrollment: Approximately 1,070 students
Grades: Kindergarten through 8th Grade
Class Size:
Maximum 24, with a lead teacher and assistant in every K-3 Classroom, shared assistants 4-8 grades
Curriculum: Georgia Standards of Excellence, Georgia Frameworks
Instructional Approaches: Dual language immersion, Constructivism, Reading and Writing Workshop, Responsive Classroom
Languages Offered: Spanish, French, and Mandarin
Demographics: Race: 40.7% White, 28.2% African American, 6.2% Asian, 8.6% Two or more races, 0.1% American Indian, Ethnicity: 16.2% Hispanic 

Lunch Program: Participant in the National School Lunch Program. Free/Reduced Lunch available through DeKalb County School Cafe Program. 20% student population, economically disadvantaged

GLOBE Academy has been awarded with the LabelFrancÉducation granted by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accreditation recognizes and rewards public or private schools that offer students enhanced instruction in the French language while also teaching other subjects in French. Schools must meet high-leveled criteria to be eligible to participate in the complex application. GLOBE is one of only three schools in Georgia to receive this accreditation which opens the door to invaluable resources to enrich and strengthen the French program.
